Advancing Our Resilience to Climate Change
For more than 100 years, Ecolab has been helping customers achieve their business and hygiene goals in a more sustainable way. That result is achieved today through solutions that reduce customer water and energy use, and therefore greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. We are committed to delivering positive outcomes for our customers, communities and the planet through our continuous efforts to reduce GHG emissions in our own and our customers’ operations.
Our Science-based Goals
Operational Emissions
Halve absolute Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 2030, from a 2018 base year.
Value Chain Emissions
Collaborate with suppliers to reduce absolute Scope 3 emissions by 25% from a 2022 base year across a portion of purchased goods and services, fuel- and energy-related activities, upstream transportation and distribution, and use of sold products.
Customers’ Emissions
Help customers along their decarbonization journeys by collectively avoiding 6 million metric tons of GHG emissions by 2030, preventing nearly 10 million pollution-related illnesses.
Net-Zero Emissions
Reach net-zero emissions across our value chain while reducing absolute Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions by 90% by by 2050. (Scope 1 and 2 from a 2018 base year; Scope 3 from a 2022 base year.)
Making Measurable Progress Toward a Net-Zero Future
To meet our ambitious operational goals, we use a combination of tactics supported by science-based strategies. This means:
- Continuing to develop innovative programs that reduce water and energy use for our customers
- Increasing energy efficiency within our manufacturing and business operations
- Using renewable electricity sources

- Uniting with external partners on nature-based solutions to combat climate change and water scarcity
Climate Leadership Highlights
Open Call to Accelerate Action on Water
At the 2023 UN Water Conference, we joined other private sector companies in a commitment to make a collective positive impact on 100 basins supporting over 3 billion people by 2030.
Accelerating Fleet Electrification in North America
Ecolab announced efforts with Ford Pro™ to accelerate the electrification of Ecolab's North American sales and service fleet by 2030, beginning in California.
Achieving 100% Renewable Electricity in Europe
Ecolab successfully sourced enough clean electricity to power 100% of its European operations, taking global clean energy sourcing levels to 80% for the company.
‘Double A’ Ratings for Climate and Water Scarcity
Ecolab again earned prestigious recognition by environmental nonprofit CDP for our continued leadership on water scarcity and climate change.
