New facility expands phytosanitary treatment capabilities to meet export requirements

CHESAPEAKE, Va. – Nov. 5, 2020 – Ecolab Pest Elimination, Specialty Pest Services group today opened its new cold weather timber treatment facility in Chesapeake, Virginia. The 10,000-square-foot facility will conduct timber and log phytosanitary treatments, as well as other commodity treatments to meet export requirements.

“This year-round facility meets the logging industry’s need in this region for cold weather treatments on exports,” said John Achzet, regional manager for Ecolab Pest Elimination, Specialty Pest Services group. “It will help enable export companies, freight forwarders and the Port of Virginia to expand their service capabilities internationally.”

Located on five acres, the treatment facility can house 18 full-size land-sea containers and can move, treat and re-seal containers on-site. Two full-time positions were established to operate the new facility.

“We’d like to thank the Virginia Port Authority, U.S. Department of Agriculture and state and local government officials for their cooperation in the construction of this facility,” added Achzet.
