Innovation for the cleaning of milking equipment
Ecolab’s new concept is a milking machine cleaner based on an enzymatic reaction. In traditional systems,
chlorinated alkaline products are used for detergency and disinfection and acid products for descaling.
The Lactivate®-System from Ecolab is based on the activation of the Lactoperoxidase, enzyme naturally present in
milk. This enzyme has, in certain conditions, a natural action of milk purification.
Lactivate®-System consists of two products used at low rate (0.25 %): Lactivate ACID (for descaling and activation
of Lactoperoxidase) and Lactivate CLEAN (for detergency) to be used alternatively.
Since the Lactivate®-System needs milk residue in the pipes to be activated, it requires the suppression of the
pre-rinsing phase during the milking machine cleaning process. This is a net water and energy saving to the
farmer and a net benefit to the environment!
