Ecolab facilities and provides food safety education for a variety of customers and our staff members who interact with customers. Some examples of our food safety education for selected customer segments follow.
Food Processors
Ecolab has an extensive training program based on the curriculum found in “Making the Right Choice.” Last year, the Ecolab Food & Beverage business unit trained over 1,000 people in food safety and sanitization principles. But we go above and beyond serving the needs of our customer base; we are also involved with training programs conducted through programs at the University of Arkansas, Penn State University, Cornell University, and the University of Wisconsin – River Falls. Additionally, Ecolab is involved in training programs for trade associations such as the American Meat Institute, the International Dairy Foods Association, various state milk and dairy sanitarian meetings, 3A standards, and other venues.
Foodservice
Ecolab offers several venues for educating food service workers on the importance of food safety. We are a major sponsor of the NRA Education Foundation and its ServSafe® training program. Our EcoSure® business offers the industry's most advanced ServSafe® manager certification training featuring Active LearningSM Technology. This program offers interactive media presentations, engaging visual demonstrations, exercises, games and quizzes that improve retention and results. EcoSure certified instructors provide onsite service nationwide. Classroom training, resource materials, online e-learning, and specialized training are all available.
Food Retail
Ecolab field associates become Certified Food Safety Professionals through credentials offered by the National Environmental Health Association. They take this knowledge back to customers through training at the unit level or food safety audits, conducting over 60,000 retail store audits last year. As a result, customers benefit from improved food safety practices and enhanced guest perception.
Daydots® U
Ecolab offers additional food safety education materials at Daydots University. Daydots' material supplements programs such as ServSafe and is an excellent tool for managers and employees to learn about food safety practices. Through the website, students cover a variety of food safety topics, such as preventing cross-contamination, proper handwashing techniques, and the proper use of thermometers. Each course is designed to take less than 15 minutes, and progress is tracked so students can pick up where they left off. For easy navigation, the courses are split between four levels – Freshman to Senior. At the end of each level, a comprehensive final exam is given. After passing the final exam, the next level of courses is unlocked. Upon successful completion of all four levels, a certificate is mailed to the student.
