Water Quality for Cleaning Solutions & Processes

Jul 15, 2013

Water is used for preparation of the cleaning and disinfection solution but also for final rinse of machines or systems after the cleaning or disinfection step. Due to the ingredients of water several problems can appear as e.g. corrosion, scaling or discoloration.

Following is a short overview on some typical water ingredients with limitations to avoid problems as listed above. The limits on chlorides are specifically set for stainless steel qualities as molybdenum free steels (e.g. 1.4301, 1.4541, AISI 304) or molybdenum containing qualities (e.g. 1.4401, 1.4571, AISI 316) to avoid pitting corrosion. Pitting corrosion can occur especially in areas of low or no flow.
