National Food Safety Month (NFSM) was created in 1994 to heighten the awareness of food safety education. Each year, the National Restaurant Association features a new theme and offers free resources for the restaurant and foodservice industry professionals to help reinforce proper food safety practices and procedures. 

This year’s theme is “Notorious Virus”- how to protect against the leading causes of foodborne illness. Free materials and resources are offered on FoodSafetyMonth.com to help educate your staff to protect both themselves and your guests from two of the leading causes of foodborne illness – Norovirus and Hepatitis A. The website provides videos and downloadable weekly activities, posters and infographics to help keep your staff informed and engaged. The themes for each week include:

  • Week 1: Know the Basics
  • Week 2: Norovirus
  • Week 3: Hepatitis A
  • Week 4: Stop the Spread
  • Week 5: Keep Your Guests Safe
