PAUL J. NORRIS

Biography – Retired Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of W.R. Grace. & Co., a manufacturer of specialty chemicals.

Until 2005, Mr. Norris served as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of W.R. Grace. Mr. Norris remained on the W. R. Grace Board until his resignation in 2010. Mr. Norris joined W.R. Grace as President and CEO in 1998 and became Chairman in 1999. W.R. Grace filed for bankruptcy protection under Chapter 11 of the U.S. Bankruptcy Code in 2001. Prior to joining W.R. Grace, Mr. Norris held various senior positions at AlliedSignal Inc. (now known as Honeywell), including Senior Vice President and President, Chemicals, from 1997 to 1998; President, AlliedSignal Polymers Division from 1994 to 1997; and President, AlliedSignal Chemicals & Catalysts from 1989 to 1994. From 1981 to 1989, Mr. Norris served in various executive capacities with Engelhard Corporation, including President of Catalysts and Chemicals.

Qualifications – As Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of W.R. Grace, Mr. Norris gained experience leading a significant manufacturing company.  This role combined with his other senior operating roles has provided Mr. Norris with directly relevant experience in the areas of corporate management, compensation, public company governance and board practices.  In addition, he has worked in the specialty chemical industry for the majority of his career, giving him relevant knowledge of the business environment in which Ecolab operates.  As a director of Nalco, Mr. Norris possesses deep knowledge with respect to the water treatment and energy services businesses that Ecolab gains with the Nalco merger.

Other directorships held during the past five years – Non-Executive Chairman of Sealy Corporation and director of FMC Corporation and Nalco Holding Company.   Formerly a director of Borden Chemicals, Inc. and W.R. Grace & Co.
