Ecolab Foundation Helps Build High School Culinary Arts Facility
The Ecolab Foundation recently donated $34,900 to the Rowland Unified School District in California helping finance a new culinary arts facility. The donation was given through the Foundation’s Visions for Learning grant program. Grants are awarded to kindergarten through 12th grade teachers across the nation. Funded projects support and engage students, helping them to achieve at-grade level basic skills or to enrich the classroom experience.
Rowland High School’s $2 million facility features two areas: a culinary classroom with a teacher demonstration area and a student-operated restaurant. The classroom has seven new stainless steel kitchens, each with flat screen TVs connected to the instructor’s demonstration kitchen. There are also six computer stations for students to do nutritional analysis of food and create menus.
“The Golden JAR,” is the school’s commercial level, student-operated 900-square-foot restaurant that provides “front and back-of-the-house” training for students at a full-service, commercial kitchen.
Students at both facilities use Ecolab foodservice sanitation products and are trained in proper sanitation techniques used in the foodservice industry.
“We are hoping to use this facility for our future catering needs,” said Lynda Bobka, logistics manager.
