For Our Workplace

Ecolab and Nalco, which merged on December 1, have both been named to Selling Power magazine's annual list of "The 50 Best Companies to Sell For." Nalco was fourth on the list while Ecolab was eighth. It was Ecolab's eighth consecutive year and Nalco's fourth consecutive year on the "Best Companies to Sell For" list.

The Ethisphere Institute named Ecolab one of the World's Most Ethical Companies for the fifth consecutive year. Ethisphere awards the designation after reviewing a company’s code of ethics, litigation and regulatory infraction history; evaluating investment in innovation and sustainable business practices; reviewing activities designed to improve corporate citizenship; and studying nominations from senior executives, industry peers, suppliers and customers.

For the second consecutive year, iSixSigma magazine named Ecolab to its list of Best Places to Work for Six Sigma Professionals. Ecolab was recognized for our training programs, compensation packages, rewards, recognition, employee satisfaction and overall Lean Six Sigma culture.

For the second consecutive year, 51jobs, Inc., China’s leading human resources service provider, named Ecolab one of the top 100 companies in China for human resource management. Ecolab was recognized for employee training, talent recruitment and retention best practices, as well as corporate social responsibility initiatives. The 51jobs, Inc.100 Best HRM Companies award is the most comprehensive human resources award in China.

Profiles in Diversity Journal presented Ecolab with the 2011 International Innovation in Diversity Award for its FlexWork program, which offers employees the flexibility to meet both work and life responsibilities through Formal Flexible Work Arrangements, such as telecommuting and job sharing and flexibility for occasional needs.

For Sustainability

The Coalition for Government Procurement recognized Ecolab for its commitment to the environment with the 2011 Green Excellence in Partnership Award. Given annually, the award recognizes government contractors that use environmentally friendly products and services or manufacturing and operating procedures.

The Carbon Disclosure Project named Ecolab to the 2011 Carbon Performance Leadership Index for efforts to mitigate climate change. One of 11 companies named to the Index, Ecolab received a "Band A" rating for having a fully integrated climate change strategy.

The Carbon Disclosure Project also named Ecolab to the Carbon Disclosure Leadership Index for the second consecutive year. This Index recognizes the company’s commitment to strategy, governance, stakeholder communications and transparency in reporting sustainability practices. Ecolab received a score of 91 out of 100, placing it in the highest scoring range.

At the 2011 China Economic Summit Forum, Ecolab was named the Best Enterprise in Leading Sustainability Efforts in China. The forum and the award ceremony were organized by China Economic Information Journal, part of the China Economic Daily News media group. Recipients were nominated by government authorities, economists and journalists.  

The Austrian state of Oberösterreich honored Ecolab with its environmental stewardship award for reducing the carbon footprint of hospital laundries. The award cited contributions to saving water and energy through Ecolab’s PERformance SMART system, which can save a million liters (more than 264,000 gallons) of water and reduce energy consumption by 13,000 kilowatts annually.

At the 2011 Food & Beverage Green Tech Asia Forum organized by the Shanghai Food Association, Ecolab received the Outstanding Contribution in Leading Food Safety Efforts and Driving Sustainability in China award for outstanding achievements and contributions in both food safety and sustainability.

Ecolab received the International Carbon-Value Innovative Value Award at the Fourth Annual World Economic and Environmental Conference in Qingdao, China, for efforts to reduce carbon emissions, improve carbon efficiency and identify ways to operate more environmentally responsibly. Organized by the United Nations Industrial Development Organization and the International Energy Conservation Environmental Protection Association, the award also recognized Ecolab’s contributions to policy, management and technological market innovations that helped to improve the carbon efficiency of the manufacturing industry.

Global information company IHS recognized Ecolab with the 2011 Spectrum Excellence Award for leadership in the use of advanced information systems and best practices to achieve environmental, health and safety and sustainability business goals. 

Talents magazine recognized Ecolab as a Sustainable Innovation Model Enterprise in China for its sustainability initiatives.

For Our Innovation

Forbes ranked Ecolab 28th on its World's Most Innovative Companies list, which rated companies around the world based on an assessment of each company's "innovation premium," which measures the premium the stock market gives a company for anticipated or expected innovation.

The Minnesota High Tech Association recognized Ecolab with the 2011 CleanTech Tekne Award for its Aquanomic™ laundry system, which uses innovative wash formulas and low-temperature chemistry to reduce water and energy consumption.

The National Restaurant Association presented Ecolab with the 2011 Kitchen Innovation Award for the Ecolab Cleaning Caddy, a system that allows foodservice and hospitality operators to achieve superior restroom cleaning and disinfecting on a daily basis. The Ecolab Cleaning Caddy eliminates the cost and hassle of outsourcing restroom cleaning, while tests show it improves the overall cleanliness of restrooms by more than 50 percent over traditional cleaning methods.

The National Restaurant Association presented Ecolab with a second 2011 Kitchen Innovation Award for the Ecolab Apex™ Conveyor dishmachine, which offers restaurants superior one-pass wash results with up to 50 percent utility savings compared to standard commercial warewashing machines. Savings are achieved by reducing water usage and recapturing heat.

At the International Cleaning Management Services (CMS) tradeshow in Berlin, Germany, CMS presented Ecolab with the 2011 Purus Award for the ProTec transport and storage system for liquid detergents. The award honored ProTec in the Packaging Design category for its design, safety and efficiency — features that significantly improve the transportation and storage of liquid detergents.

At the JustMeans Redefining Value Conference and Social Innovation Awards in London, Ecolab received the 2011 Best Product Design Award for DryExx® GS Lubricant, a dry conveyor lubricant that dramatically reduces the amount of water needed to move glass bottles on conveyors used in the beverage, brewery and food processing industries. The Social Innovation Awards recognize companies that implement groundbreaking strategies and programs that drive social and environmental innovation.

The WorldStar Packaging Organization presented Ecolab with the Global Packaging Award for the ProTec liquid detergent transport and storage system for its sustainable design.  The WorldStar Packaging Awards recognize state-of-the-art packaging and create a standard of international packaging excellence from which others may learn.

At the 2011 Europropre Conference in Paris, Ecolab received an Innovation Award for the ProTec transport and storage system for liquid detergents. The award, which emphasizes sustainability and worker safety, recognized ProTec for its sustainable design.

Ecolab received the IFT Food Expo Innovation Award for Exelerate® ZTF, the industry's first and only cleaning program designed to address zero trans fat oil build-up in food processing environments. The award recognizes outstanding innovation in products, ingredients, applications, equipment, instruments, technology and services.

Ecolab was presented with the 2011 International Dairy Foods Association (IDFA) Innovation Sustainability Award for Envirocid Plus™ CIP (clean-in-place) cleaner, a zero-phosphorus, low-nitrate acid CIP cleaner that was recognized for helping processing plants manage effluent and operating costs while improving sustainability.

Ecolab received the 2011 American Payroll Association (APA) Prism Award for Management. The APA Prism Awards recognize extraordinary payroll departments for their best practices. Ecolab was honored for its smart payroll services management, which saved the company $2.6 million. 

For Our Community Involvement

Ecolab was named an Outstanding Enterprise in Delivering Corporate Social Responsibility for the second consecutive year by China Business News, China's premier business media group. Ecolab was presented with the Top 20 Outstanding Enterprise Award for the company's contributions in driving social responsibility to all stakeholders in China.  

The St. Paul Area Chamber of Commerce Charitable Foundation presented Ecolab and Kris Taylor, Ecolab vice president of Community Relations, with the 2011 HERBIE award. The award, recognized Ecolab for its dedication to improving the livability and vibrancy of the community. 

Ecolab received the 2011 Humanitarian Award from BestPrep for the company’s support of education in Minnesota. BestPrep bridges classroom curriculum and the world of business, enriching the teaching and learning experience for Minnesota students and educators.

 

For Our Leadership

Institutional Investor magazine recognized Ecolab in 2011 as having the Best Investor Relations Program in the Business, Education & Professional Services sector. Mike Monahan, senior vice president of External Relations, was named Best Investor Relations Professional in the Business, Education & Professional Services sector, and Doug Baker, chairman, president and chief executive officer, was named Best CEO in the Business, Education & Professional Services Sector from Buy Side.  

The Minneapolis/St. Paul Business Journal recognized Ching-Meng Chew, Ecolab’s vice president and treasurer, with a 2011 Diversity in Business Award for his commitment to coaching others and developing the next generation of leaders.

The Human Rights Campaign rated Ecolab 100 percent on its Corporate Equality Index. The index rates U.S. workplaces on lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender equality.

Profiles in Diversity Journal honored Ecolab with the 2010 International Innovation in Diversity Award for innovations in promoting workforce diversity and inclusion.

Ecolab ranked 26th on Newsweek's Greenest Companies in America list. The Newsweek Green Rankings grade America's 500 largest publicly traded companies, as measured by revenue, market capitalization and number of employees, on environmental performance, policies and reputation as environmentally responsible companies.

Ecolab was named a Best Enterprise in Delivering Corporate Social Responsibility in China at the China Business News' 2010 China Corporate Social Responsibility award ceremony in Shanghai, China.

The Carbon Disclosure Project named Ecolab to the Carbon Disclosure Leadership Index for our commitment to strategy, governance, stakeholder communications and transparency in its reporting practices.

Ecolab was listed 39th out of 339 of the largest U.S. companies on the 2010 Maplecroft Climate Innovation Index for climate-related innovation and carbon management.

At the China Sustainability Leaders Symposium in Beijing, Ecolab received the Best Corporate Citizen Award for Driving Sustainability in China award for its sustainability initiatives.

Sodexo honored Ecoab with its first-ever Better Tomorrow Award for support in achieving its sustainability goals -- from reducing water use and waste to creating stronger communities.

Cargill’s Value-Added Meats Division presented its 2010 Sustainability Solutions Award to Ecolab for water recirculation technology that enabled the division to achieve significant costs savings.

For Our Innovation

The German Packaging Institute recognized Ecolab with its 2010 German Packaging Award in the transport category for the ProTec 100-percent closed-system cleaning innovation. ProTec reduces human exposure to concentrated liquids and cleans and refills empty 200-liter drums to conserve resources.

The National Restaurant Association presented Ecolab its 2010 Kitchen Innovations Award for its Scrub N Go® system, which delivers up to 63 percent time savings versus wet mopping.

The Verband der Fachplaner Industrial Kitchen Planners' Association presented Ecolab with the 2010 Dr. Georg Triebe Innovation Award Bronze Medal in the Sustainability and Efficiency Category for Ecolab’s 360° Explorer™ Web-based cleaning management system, which can save commercial kitchens 20 percent or more in energy and water consumption.

At France’s annual Hospital Expo, Ecolab was recognized with the Eco-Responsible Award for its HealthGuard biocleaning program. The system includes concentrated products with refillable packages for floor and surface cleaning and disinfection. It reduces water consumption by 75 percent and packaging weight by 90 percent.

For Our Community Involvement

The American Red Cross Twin Cities Chapter presented Ecolab its Circle of Humanitarians Award for its earthquake relief efforts in Haiti and Chile.

Minnesota Computers for Schools honored Ecolab with its Making a Difference Corporate Award for sustained support and technology donations.

The American Heart Association’s Twin Cities Heart Walk recognized Ecolab CEO Doug Baker with its 2010 David A. Ness Start! Impact Award for supporting its “Start!” wellness initiative.

Catholic Charities of St. Paul and Minneapolis presented Ecolab with its Community Service Award.

Ecolab was named one of 130 companies on Forbes magazine’s 2010 Global High Performers list, which highlights companies whose growth and profitability stand out among 2,000 of the world’s largest public companies.

Ecolab was named a Top Food Safety Solutions Provider in China by Food Safety magazine.

At the 2010 China Hospitality Summit, Ecolab was named Top Solution Provider for the Hospitality Industry in China.

The Hotel Association of Canada named Ecolab a 2010 Outstanding Supplier.

Ecolab’s Sam Hsu, general manager of the company’s China operations, was recognized as a 2009-2010 Top Leader in Driving Sustainability in China by people.com.cn, a leading Chinese media outlet.
