Ecolab to Headline EarthCheck Inner Circle 2016 Conference

April 04, 2016

More than 75% of tourism operators in Asia Pacific have high business risks related to water scarcity, according to data to be discussed at Inner Circle 2016, a global sustainability and responsible tourism forum to be hosted by EarthCheck on 21-22 April 2016 at Alila Seminyak, Bali.

The data was revealed by Ecolab’s Water Risk Monetizer utilizing a subset of more than 350 properties from EarthCheck’s database of more than 1400 tourism operators in 70 countries. The Water Risk Monetizer is an interactive financial modelling tool that provides actionable information to help businesses financially quantify water-related risks, enabling more informative planning for growth. The tool is available to the public at no cost at www.waterriskmonetizer.com.

Stan Stabner, Ecolab Vice President and General Manager, Institutional Asia Pacific, said “EarthCheck’s profiling of the Water Risk Monetizer at Inner Circle 2016 reflects a shared commitment to providing performance data, insights and practical solutions to environmental challenges.”

EarthCheck Founder and CEO Stewart Moore congratulated Ecolab on its development of the Water Risk Monetizer and said true natural resource costs would be a key topic of discussion among thought leaders representing 18 sustainable tourism brands including hotel groups with a combined portfolio of more than 150,000 rooms.

“Inner Circle 2016 is set to challenge tourism industry leaders while sharing practical operational approaches and leading edge science to help address the major environmental, social and economic issues facing the future of travel and tourism,” Mr Moore said.

Commenting on the significance of holding a tourism industry forum in Bali, a region facing major infrastructure challenges including limited potable water supply, Mr Moore said the Inner Circle forum had historically acted as an ‘incubator’ for industry knowledge and solutions.

Inner Circle 2016’s host venue Alila Seminyak was designed and built in accordance with the EarthCheck Building, Planning and Design Standard in 2014, and Mr Moore described the resort as an exemplary model of water management and waste conservation.

“Alila Seminyak’s numerous initiatives and efforts show incredible respect for Bali’s precious finite resources, and the industry will learn a lot from their first-hand site inspection during the forum,” Mr Moore said.

Commune Hotels + Resorts Group Director of Engineering and Environment, Mr Piet Van Zyl, will lead delegates on a practical tour of the resorts’ waste and recycling initiatives.

“Alila Seminyak is thrilled to be hosting Inner Circle 2016, an event which is recognized by the industry for its open and frank discussions and practical outcomes,” Mr Van Zyl said.
