Secondary Disinfection

Secondary disinfection can help maintain the microbiological quality of potable water by inhibiting growth of potentially harmful pathogens. We offer secondary disinfection (or supplemental disinfection) systems for potable water using an EPA approved disinfectant (e.g., chlorine dioxide, chlorine). We offer continuous secondary disinfection systems and monitoring services for potable water and other water systems as part of a managed program to control microbial hazards such as Legionella.

Why Secondary Disinfection?

We also understand that a documented monitoring and control program is essential to validate the program works.

With increased liability concerns, many facilities are facing the need to develop effective prevention programs for waterborne pathogens, such as Legionella.  Through development of a robust secondary disinfection program, we can help:

  • Reduce risks due to waterborne pathogens
  • Manage risk within the context of a water safety plan
  • Preserve capital by reducing the need for hyperchlorination procedures
  • Comply with EPA regulatory requirements for treating drinking water per the Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA)

The objective of secondary disinfection is to maintain disinfectant residual throughout the entire water system to inhibit growth and biofilms.  While there are many choices for secondary disinfection, research studies and our "real-world" experience in the practice are proving chlorine dioxide to be one of the most effective disinfectant technologies available today.
