More AI does not have to mean more pressure on water supplies. In a conversation with Alex Kantrowitz on the Big Technology podcast, Ecolab Chairman and CEO Christophe Beck challenges the assumption that rapidly expanding data centers must inevitably consume ever-greater amounts of water.

Beck points to a different model: designing data center systems to recirculate and reuse water rather than continually drawing on new supplies. He explains how advances in water management and cooling can help AI infrastructure grow more efficiently while easing pressure on the communities and natural resources that support it. The result, Beck argues, is not a choice between innovation and sustainability, but an opportunity to deliver both.
