Top causes of 2017 recalls

Although there are some differences between the government agencies FDA and USDA, undeclared allergens, Listeria monocytogenes, foreign material, E. coli and Salmonella were among the top causes of recalls in 2017.

While they were cited as reasons for the recalls, not all incidences are confirmed. A food recall is initiated when a food manufacturer or distributer has a reason to believe that a food may result in a foodborne illness or other harms. In some situations, food recalls are requested by government agencies (USDA or FDA) to take food off the market. An awareness of working partnerships within the supply chain can reduce your risk of recalls.

Valid preventive controls are needed to manage possible issues with pathogens. Get the facts on Listeria monocytogenesE. coli Salmonella and other microbial risks, including the transmission routes and how they can be controlled, here.
