Global water scarcity is a serious threat, but available technology can greatly reduce water use in a wide range of businesses. Ecolab innovations are helping companies around the world significantly reduce the amount of water needed for beverage and food manufacturing conveyer belts, laundries, paper-making plants, dishwashers and a host of other industrial operations.
“Water is critical to many production processes in the food, healthcare, energy, hospitality and industrial markets,” said Ecolab Chairman and CEO Douglas M. Baker, Jr. “Growing concerns about the future availability of water is spurring more interest in technologies that conserve water and improve efficiency.”
A few Ecolab water-saving technologies include:
3D TRASAR® technology, which combines chemistry, remote services and sophisticated monitoring and control to minimize water use within industrial operations. 3D TRASAR for cooling water has saved customers more than 500 billion gallons of water since its introduction in 2004.
DryExx® dry conveyor lubricant, which can eliminate up to 97 percent of the water used for conveyor lubrication in beverage, brewing and food processing operations. In a typical five-line plant, DryExx can save more than 2.5 million gallons of water per year.
Aquanomic™ laundry system, which utilizes innovative wash processes and low-temperature chemistry to reduce water and energy consumption by up to 40 percent while providing clean, white and soft results.
PARETO mixing technology, a patented, engineered system that enhances chemical performance by optimizing the injection of chemical additives into industrial process streams, which reduces water use. Since its inception, PARETO has saved more than 11 billion gallons of water throughout the paper industry.
“Water scarcity is a serious global issue and many of our customers have ambitious water reduction goals,” said Baker. “Fortunately there are practical solutions available today that can have a positive impact right now, while we continue to work on future innovations.”
