Emilio Tenuta, Ecolab vice president of Sustainability, joined business and environmental leaders at the 2013 Fortune Brainstorm GREEN conference in Laguna Niguel, Calif., to discuss the latest sustainability solutions and the role of business in addressing environmental issues.
Tenuta led a roundtable session on technology’s role in addressing water scarcity. Joining him were leaders from MillerCoors, Water Health International, Autodesk and Deloitte Consulting. The conversation addressed increased demands on the global water supply, and how machine-to-machine technologies can help improve water efficiency, recycling and reuse.
“To move to the next level of water stewardship, businesses are examining existing processes to reduce water use and developing improved automated monitoring technologies to ensure performance,” said Tenuta. “Businesses can significantly reduce water use through real-time monitoring and control technology that provide the right quality of water for every process.”
The discussion also focused on third-party water management standards, such as the Alliance for Water Stewardship’s International Water Stewardship Standard, which provides best practices to reduce water risks and generate positive social, environmental and economic impacts within a watershed.
Ecolab helps customers manage water use through industry-leading expertise and innovations that save water and energy, enhance production, and protect the environment while reducing total cost of operation for customers in a wide range of industries, including automotive, building products, chemical, commercial buildings, food and beverage, hospitality, microelectronics, mining, pharmaceutical, power, and primary metals.
This year marked the sixth Fortune Brainstorm GREEN conference, and was attended by leading business leaders, experts, academics and journalists.
