Ecolab Inc., the global leader in water, hygiene and energy technologies and services, sponsored the 2016 Circular Awards, which recognize individuals and organizations that have made notable contributions to the circular economy. The 2016 award ceremony was held Jan. 19 in conjunction with the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting in Davos, Switzerland. The second annual awards ceremony showcased advances from the private sector, public sector and civil society that drive innovation and growth while reducing dependence on scarce natural resources.
Ecolab, a sponsor of the awards program for the second consecutive year, presented the Ecolab Award for Circular Economy Enterprise, an award for small- to medium-sized organizations, with between $10 and $100 million in revenue, that are transforming their business towards the circular economy. Christophe Beck, Ecolab vice president of Global Water and Process Services, presented the award to Washington, D.C.-based Optoro Inc. for designing a high-quality reverse logistics solution that changes how retailers view their distressed inventory; rather than seeing it as waste or a liability, the company’s circular-focused software helps present it as a source of value.
The 2016 Circulars Awards attracted 212 entries from 36 countries, and the judging panel was drawn from the Young Global Leader community of the World Economic Forum and leading experts across business and civil society.
"The circular economy is a game changer in defining the search for those transformational businesses models driven by the revolution in digital connectivity, industrial design and advanced materials innovation that can have a significant and positive impact on the environment and economic productivity,” said Dominic Waughray, head of Public-Private Partnership at the World Economic Forum. “As we seek to encourage greater adoption, The Circulars have become an important initiative of the World Economic Forum’s Young Global Leaders to recognize and celebrate such cutting edge innovation and impact.”
