The World Environment Center (WEC) presented Ecolab Chairman and CEO Douglas M. Baker, Jr., with the Gold Medal for International Corporate Achievement in Sustainable Development during the 34th annual Gold Medal Presentation Ceremony, which took place on May 17 in Washington, D.C.
“Sustainability is core to our purpose,” said Baker. “I’m honored to accept this recognition on behalf of our 48,000 associates who are working around the world to help our customers to do more with less water, energy and waste.”
The independent Gold Medal Jury – composed of international leaders from academia, government, non-governmental organizations, and retired industry professionals – selected Ecolab based on its many initiatives to support global sustainable water management and conservation, its multiple sustainability commitments and partnerships, and integration of sustainability in its innovation processes and product development.
In summarizing the decision to recognize Ecolab, Gold Medal Jury Chair Katherine Sierra of The Brookings Institution stated, “On behalf of the independent jury members, I extend my sincere congratulations to Ecolab for its thoughtful approach to sustainability and social impact. Ecolab demonstrates its strong commitment to sustainability across its organization, to its customers through innovative products, technologies and solutions.”
