SUGAR LAND, TX — Nalco Champion, an Ecolab company, in collaboration with Accenture and Microsoft, has launched a new unified, digital platform – Refined Knowledge Powered by Ecolab 3D to provide downstream oil and gas customers with unique insights to predict and solve challenges across the assets in their organizations, empowering them to transform the way assets are managed.
Refined Knowledge Powered by Ecolab 3D collects data from remote sensors and Nalco Champion’s 3D automation platforms, field measurements, lab testing and customer data systems by leveraging Microsoft’s secure Azure cloud platform. Refined Knowledge synthesizes that data and provides performance dashboards, reports, benchmarking capabilities and an eROI calculator to help customers optimize how assets are used and reduce their total costs of operation. The platform also delivers 3D CrudeFlex, a series of proprietary automations and sensor applications for crude distillation units. Customers can use these actionable insights to mitigate risks, deliver increased sustainability and profitability, providing water and energy cost savings across their organization.
“This new Refined Knowledge platform unleashes the power of data, leveraging our digital capability to deliver incomparable value beyond products and services,” said Danny Rey, Nalco Champion’s Senior Vice President of Global Downstream. “We are able to use this platform to deliver cost reductions of around 10 percent for many customers, which can mean $3 million in documented savings for a single site or installation. I am excited about what’s possible with the arrival of this enhanced platform.”
Additionally, Accenture created a modern analytics application leveraging a user-first and cloud-first approach. Fjord, a design and innovation consultancy from Accenture Interactive, played a key role in designing modern user experiences. Accenture and Nalco Champion collaborated on the end-to-end solution, bringing data into the platform so users can visualize business insights and run advanced analytics in an agile way.
Manish Panjwani, a managing director and Technology Consulting Lead for Accenture’s North America resources businesses, added: “This project solidifies Nalco Champion’s position as a leading innovator to drive better performance for its customers by leveraging intelligent analytics. For example, Nalco Champion can better predict upcoming plant outages by monitoring their customers’ assets in close to real time, moving towards predictive rather than reactive maintenance.”
“Nalco Champion continues to be at the forefront of providing the Refining and Petrochemical sector of the Downstream Oil and Gas industry with digital innovations that take advantage of the secure and global scale of Microsoft’s Azure cloud, predictive analytics and machine-learning capabilities,” said Çağlayan Arkan, GM, Manufacturing & Resources, Microsoft. “These innovations can help Nalco Champion customers monitor process and water technology applications, proving the difference between a plant that runs with no downtime versus a plant with a corrosion-related shutdown that leads to lost productivity and additional costs.”
“Our vision is to empower our users with critical insight at their fingertips, anytime and anywhere,” said Thomas Lu, Nalco Champion’s Director of Commercial Digital Solutions for Global Downstream. “Our users are more efficient and generate tremendous value for their operations by using this platform.”
Refined Knowledge leverages Nalco Champion’s prior generation Refined Knowledge digital offering that has been successfully deployed in 850 customer locations and collected more than 20 billion data points to generate customer insights to date.
