An operator in the Denver- Julesburg (DJ) Basin planned to pressurize offset wells with water to avoid frac hits that can occur during drilling and completing nearby wells. Operators can pressurize and shut in existing offsets to minimize frac hits; however, this adds cost and lost production time. Drill protect programs offer an opportunity to treat existing wells to enhance their productivity, taking advantage of the water injection and shut-in to distribute the product and treat the entire reservoir.
Enhancing well productivity will make drill protection programs more attractive economically.
Nalco Champion suggested adding PROE27010A to the drill protect package to enhance well productivity after the offset well resumed production. PROE27010A is designed to alter reservoir wettability, displacing additional oil by water-wetting the reservoir. Enhancing well productivity will make drill protection programs more attractive economically.
Application of PROE27010A tripled production from ~10 bbl/day to >30 bbl/day, an increase that was observed after flush production attributable to the pressure increase ceased. This increase was sustained for three months and enhanced well production is expected to continue for several more months.
