Ecolab Inc., the global leader in water, food safety and public health technologies and services, ranks #17 on Barron’s 2020 list of the 100 Most Sustainable Companies in the U.S., up nine spots from the company’s #26 position in 2019. Barron has consistently ranked Ecolab among the top 30 most sustainable companies since the list was developed in 2018.

Sustainability is core to Ecolab’s purpose to make the world cleaner, safer and healthier. The company’s solutions and services help customers achieve their business and environmental goals at the lowest total cost. Ecolab also is committed to improving its own environmental footprint.

To determine the 100 most sustainable companies, Barron’s, in partnership with Calvert Research and Management, analyzed 1,000 of the largest publicly traded companies in the U.S. and scored them on 230 performance indicators. Calvert then sorted the data into five key categories: shareholders, employees, customers, community and the planet. Companies with the highest weighted scores in each of the five categories were included in the list.
