Ecolab President and CEO Christophe Beck Comments on the Signing of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Bill
Ecolab President and CEO Christophe Beck commented on today's signing of the bipartisan infrastructure bill:
It is good to see the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act become law. The investments that the bill will inject into our nation’s infrastructure to support our economy – from roads and bridges to broadband and electric vehicle charging stations to water infrastructure – are critically important.
Industry has led many initiatives to reduce water and energy use and mitigate their climate impacts, and we will continue to play a vital role in these efforts. Ecolab is helping companies across industries reduce their water and energy use and greenhouse gas emissions. In 2020 alone, Ecolab helped businesses throughout the world conserve 206 billion gallons of water and 44 trillion Btu of energy and avoid 3.5 million metric tons of emissions.
But more needs to be done, and this bill helps us address these challenges. We’ve seen a growing water crisis in recent years, from lead contamination in drinking water and leaking pipes to a prolonged mega drought in the western U.S. that has demonstrated the critical need to invest in water efficiency. This bipartisan legislation will invest $55 billion to shore up our nation’s water infrastructure. I am encouraged by the $1 billion investment in water recycling and reuse projects and the formation of a new federal interagency work group to advance water reuse solutions across the country.
Passing significant legislation is never easy, and I appreciate the efforts of Congressional lawmakers in both parties and the Biden Administration in getting this across the finish line.
