The science is clear on what’s needed to mitigate climate change: Significant, global action to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and limit warming to 1.5°C. Among the business community, Ecolab has emerged as a clear leader in modeling what it takes to be part of the solution.

As outlined in Fast Company, a recent report identified Ecolab as one of only three companies making significant progress toward achieving net-zero emissions targets. The report, compiled by the nonprofit As You Sow, “graded” 55 major U.S. companies for their net-zero efforts. Ecolab earned an overall “A-” grade for its high achievement in climate-related disclosure, net-zero target setting and actual progress toward its targets. Ecolab joined Microsoft and Pepsi in the ranking’s overall top three companies.

Ecolab’s high marks recognize the rigorous, science-based approach already underway to achieve a net-zero future.

In 2020, Ecolab launched ambitious sustainability goals to continue to grow its positive impact in multiple areas, including mitigating climate change. By 2030, Ecolab will work within its own operations to halve carbon emissions and pursue 100% renewable electricity. In addition, by 2030, Ecolab aims to help customers become carbon neutral by reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 6 million metric tonnes and preventing 10 million pollution-related illness. As indicated by the As You Sow report, Ecolab has made industry-leading progress and is on track toward achieving these goals in line with the pace needed to meet the 1.5-degree limit set by the Paris Agreement.

More than ever, efforts are needed to mitigate future impacts of climate change, adapt to those already brought on and align with international sustainable development goals. Businesses have a vital role to play in achieving net zero emissions, and it will require transformational change to grow while proactively managing climate change risk.

Ecolab is committed to advancing sustainability for itself and with its customers. Ecolab’s work to-date has shown that it’s not only possible but highly impactful to align environmental priorities and business priorities. Indeed, advancing ambitious sustainability goals does not come at the expense of growth. And while fighting climate change is one of our greatest challenges, finding the path to net-zero is a corresponding growth opportunity. It's in that spirit that Ecolab will continue progressing toward our 2030 Impact Goals to advance people, planet and business health.
